WSOB 20th Nordic Open Backgammon Championship ResultsThe 2nd World Series of Backgammon event for 2008 – the 20th Nordic Open - ended last week with Tassilo Rzymann of Austria victory over Danish backgammon player Hans Christien Mathiesen. The winner of the Consolation Division is Masayuki Mochizuki and the runner up is Karsten Bredahl who was part of a team of 4 players sponsored by the online backgammon website Play65.
The 5-days Nordic Open Backgammon Championship had two reasons for celebration: its 20th anniversary and its official inclusion as one of the World Series of Backgammon tournaments. The festive backgammon event at the Marienlyst Hotel and Casino in Denmark drew players from across the globe. Nevertheless, the top positions in the various events were mainly dominated by Danish players including the Championship and Consolation Divisions runner ups, the winner of the Beginners' Division and the semi finalists of the Consultation Doubles event.
The semi finalists of the Consultation Doubles, Michael Larsen and Jakob Simonsen were part of the Play65 team along with Consolation Division runner up Hans Christien and Henrik Løber. As a team, the foursome had defeated their contestants in the Nations Cup and outplayed the Japanese Backammon League in the Team Event.
Tassilo Rzymann, the WSOB 20th Nordic Open Backgammon Champion took home a cash prize of 32,000 euro. Additionally, he ensured his participation at the upcoming World Series of Backgammon event the Riviera Cup. The 3rd and final qualifying event of the WSOB will be held at the Palm Beach Casino in Cannes, France starting on July 16 until July 20, a day before the beginning of the 2007-8 World Series of Backgammon event.
