Travelers Backgammon CrazeBackgamon is huge with travelers in Thailand. During my two week vacation there, I developed an obsession for the game after my first day of arrival. I noticed the gammon dices rolling on the beautiful white sandy beaches in Kophanyan and people of all ages playing under the shade in a hut with a shake in one hand and dice in another! Even the internet cafés were packed with tourists playing backgammon, which itself Is a growing phenomena!
So...what makes gammon big amongst travelers? Well, it is easy-to-learn, easy-to-play, fast rounds and the potentially drastic shifts in outcome even within a single game, it offers thrill and excitement for almost anyone. I think that the appeal somewhat resembles the appeal of gambling: the thrills, the chance, the immediacy of win/lose situation and the common belief that the next round will simply be.....yours. I often wonder whether online backgammon is taking over from old fashioned backgammon? Is It the actual game people are addicted to or online games in general???
