Play65 Free Backgammon

Play65 is home to a continually growing online backgammon gambling community, offering a platform to play backgammon online for fun or for real money against board game enthusiasts from around the world.

Like in any backgammon download, all you have to do is download Play 65's client software from their website, select a username and password, and then you can begin playing backgammon and gamble for fun money or real money.

Using the Play 65 Software

The play65 software is virtually identical to the software used by Gammon Empire. Getting to know new software can be overwhelming, but the online game software really is easy to use once you become familiar with it. For the software to work you need have windows running on your computer. After you have logged in, pop up windows provide you with links to sign up and start gambling for real money - for all those players who mean business - and links to Play65's current backgammon news and up-and-coming events, such as game tournaments. You can close off these windows and return to them later if you choose.

Playing Backgammon in Play65

Prior to playing the game on Play65 backgammon site, you should make sure you understand all the basic rules of the board game. To join a game you merely click the join button next to the players waiting to play a game. A window will appear inform you the rules that your opponent wants to use to play the game. You can negotiate on the gambling wagers of the game (per point), for example if you want each point to be worth $5, and the maximum amount of money that can be won or lost.

The Backgammon Game Board

The backgammon game board in Play65 has a very logical board to use when playing a game of backgammon online. To roll the dice you just click your mouse on the dice. You move the checkers by clicking on the checker you wish to move, dragging and dropping it onto the position you want it to move to. And Play65 very cleverly have designed the dice numbers to diffuse after each move to remind you of the number you have already played.

Once you have become accustomed to the way the checkers move, you can use the faster method of moving your checkers simply clicking on them; right-mouse click moves the chosen checker the larger number rolled on the dice and left-mouse click moves it the smaller number rolled. When your turn is over, you pick up the dice by clicking on them.

Time Controls

Every game is timed to ensure that play continues at a reasonable pace. It is possible to play either at Normal speed (45 sec/turn) or Fast speed (25 sec/turn). This is the amount of time a player is given to roll the dice and move their checkers. If you can't finish in the given time, a global timer with extra time on it starts to count down. The global timer begins each game at 150 seconds if the player is playing Normal speed, or 90 seconds if playing Fast speed. If you run out of time on your global timer, you lose the game. I find even 25 seconds per turn more than enough time. In fact I'd would love even less time; perhaps, 10 or 15 seconds per turn.

Playing for Fun Money

Players can either play for fun or real money. When you play for fun money you begin with $100 in your account. You win and lose fun money the same as if you were to play for real money. There is only one difference if you ever lose all your fun money, your $100 is incredibly returned. You will never really run out of fun money. It is free to play for fun, but the overall quality of competition is not quite as high as on the money side of the site. There are still however some very good players there. It can be fun to try to build up your money over time. Games are rated, so you are also trying to increase your rating. Ratings can to find opponents equal ability.

Playing for Real Money

Before you can play for real money, you need to fill out a form giving personal information including name, address, e-mail address, and telephone number. It also necessary to read and agree to the user agreement. It is free of charge to sign up to play for real money. It is not even necessary to make a deposit Play65 gives every player $1-3 free to get started (providing the new registrant would validate an email address, phone number or both).

One advantage of playing for real money is that players can have their games recorded so that their games can be reviewed. Games are saved in .GAM or .MAT format, depending on whether a player is playing single games or matches.

Withdrawing Money

Withdrawing money when you play backgammon for real money is easy. Play65 offers a range of withdrawal methods, including Neteller, PayPal, Moneybookers, wire transfers, and bank drafts. The minimum withdrawal amount is $20, and depending on the method you choose, you will generally receive your withdrawal within a few days.

Online Backgammon Tournaments

There are a number of tournaments held by Play65 that you become involved in, including tournaments where you play for real money, and play-for-fun tournaments. You can find further information on up-and-coming tournaments in Play65's events calendar.
