Falling Tournament Attendances

I have noticed that attendance levels at national live UK backgammon tournaments are in steep decline. In the last 12 months the average combined attendance at BIBA and Gammonitis tournaments has been 33 players, whereas in the year to October 2002 (before Gammonitis was set up) the average attendance at BIBA tournaments was 67! Half of the players on the UK's national tournament scene appear to have disappeared. Where have they gone and why?

Perhaps this blog is being read by some of those who no longer attend live national tournaments. If so, what has put you off, and what would tempt you back? Are registration fees to high? Perhaps the venues are not up to scratch, or too expensive? Do you find you have to travel too far to attend?
