Backgammon, Time Wasting and the Evolution Those of you who feel bad about wasting spending time playing backgammon, whether online or on a fancy backgammon board, at the expense of other occupations, might feel better knowing that even Charles Darwin, the father of modern evolutionary theory, could not spend a day without playing two games of backgammon.
According to About Darwin, site dedicated to the life and times of the first evolutionary biologist, (via NeatORama), the half an hour between 8:00 and 8:30 PM, after the family dinner and before extending to the drawing room or study to read a scientific text, was dedicated to two games of backgammon with his wife, Emma. It is also noted that Darwin kept the score sheets of the couple backgammon games for years.
For backgammon addicts half an hour may seem too little, yet Darwin's idea seems adjustable. If backgammon takes too much of your precious time, simply put this recreation in a set time frame, leaving enough time to read scientific texts, stroll with the dog or occupy yourselves in any other hobbies taken over by backgammon.
