The Daily Mail reports that backgammon is among the top three selling games at the John Lewis department store, with the mental and physical challenge of tipping tower (Jenga) and the classic game of kings. Dominoes and mahjong are also very popular this year, and so are skill card games such as canasta and bridge, which currently enjoys the highest growth in sales.

Celebrities playing board games have probably contribute to their high demand. Demi Moore and Kelly Brook were blamed for Dominoes 56% rise in sales; while paparazzi photographs of Leonardo DiCaprio playing backgammon in a Los Angeles bar.
