1st BIBA World Championship ResultsChris Ternel won the first ever BIBA World Championship, organized by the British Isles Backgammon Association in favor of backgammon players who cannot afford the high entry fees of major backgammon events. According to the attendance rates, an affordable backgammon championship is certainly needed, as 54 players registered to the main event, helping to increase the 1st prize from the promised £1,000 to £1,080, thus, contributing a skimpy reward to the runner up and semi finalists, who went home with £40 and £20 each, respectively.
The final 11-points championship match was occupied by Chris Ternel, one of the top British backgammon players (Partouche Backgammon Open 2008 semifinalist among other notable achievements) and Marcus Wrinch, a regular at the Bristol backgammon tournaments and BIBA events. Wrinch started out a bit shocked, letting Ternel get out with a 7-0 score, but later got a grip and scored some games, still the championship was already insured to Chris Ternel. The newly crowned BIBA world champion is planning to test his skills among crueler sharks at the Monte Carlo World Backgammon Championship, scheduled to take place at the end of this month in Monaco.
